CINAHL & Nursing Reference Center CE Update

The CE modules in CINAHL and Nursing Reference Center have been awarded two years’ accreditation by the ANCC! Nursing Reference Center has over 300 CE modules and will be doubling its CE offerings over the next year. CINAHL has over 100 CE modules. The modules will take between an hour to several hours to complete. You should be able to download and print out your certificate of completion.

Here is how to get your CE in CINAHL:

After you type in the CE topic you are interested in, scroll down to look for the CE Module limit. It’s below the research limit on the left side of the page. Then click on the search button at the bottom of the page.

Here’s how to get your CE in Nursing Reference Center:

Click on the Contiuing Education tab. You can either search for a CE topic or browse through the list of topics.

New Nursing Reference Center Feature

Nursing Reference Center has a new tab labeled Skills & Procedures. This section has clinical papers detailing the necessary steps to achieve proficiency in specific nursing tasks and procedures. Details include:

A clear definition of each skill
Why the skill should be performed
What nurses need to know
How to perform the skill, and more!

Two New UIC Library Resources

UIC Library has subscribed to two new resources, one geared towards nursing while the other one is a point-of-care tool. Both resources will be added to the Research Guides.

DynaMed is a clinical tool that provides “clinically organized” summaries for 3,000 disease and condition topics. It is updated daily. It also includes over 800 topic summaries on AHFS Drug Information. DynaMed recently added calculators for math, statistics, by specialty, and more.

DynaMed can be downloaded to a PDAs, smartphones, iPhone, and iTouch. In order to install DynaMed on a PDA device, you will need to obtain a DynaMed serial number. To request a DynaMed serial number, please contact Ebsco through dynamedsupport@epnet.com. Please indicate which device you are using and use your UIC email for authentication purposes.

Nursing Reference Center is a companion resource to CINAHL. It has the following content:

Diseases & Conditions-includes evidence-based care sheets on various topics.
Drug Information-from Davis’ Drug Guides for Nurses and AHFS Drug Information Essentials.
CE-requires registration for free access.
Patient Education-over 4,000 evidence based practice handouts.
Practice Resources-has e-books such as Concept Mapping, Diseases and Disorders, and Understanding Medical Surgical Nursing. Also has practice guidelines, legal cases, and research instruments. When you search within this section, the information is broken down by what type of publication it is.
