Special Collections and University Archives Closed Saturday, August 8th

The Special Collections and University Archives Department at the Richard J. Daley Library will be closed Saturday, August 8th for the beginning of the summer session break. The department will resume its Saturday schedule August 27th.

Access to CSA Illumina Restored

A legal dispute between Sprint-Nextel and Cogent Communications made the Cambridge Scientific Abstracts database (CSA Illumina) temporarily unavailable to some customers including the UIC Library.
Service was reinstated on November 2.

Library Open Longer Hours

The Richard J. Daley Library and the Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago will be open longer hours for the remaining weeks of the Spring semester.
Effective April 1st the Daley Library, which now closes at 9 PM Sunday through Thursday, will close at 11 PM on those days.

Use of University Wireless Network

Library patrons who use the University’s Wireless Network must upgrade their Odyssey Client to Version 4.5 by February 1st.After that date it will be impossible to use the University’s Wireless Network without this upgrade. This upgrade only affects Microsoft Windows users.

Library News Blog Back Up

In early December access to the server on which the UIC Library News blog resides malfunctioned. Although the server was quickly rebooted, there were severe problems which prevented us from updating the newsletter. The News-blog has now been moved to newer equipment and is again operational.

Blog Server Down

At around 16:10 on December 3rd access to the blog server rivendell was not possible any more. We did a reboot of the server at 16:55, the server was back online at 17:05.
Unfortunately, the reboot revealed severe file and database corruption. We are working on salvaging both and moving the server to newer equipment.
