OpenOffice (a free office software suite) works with RefWorks with creating your bibliography. Use the Firefox browser instead of Internet Explorer. While testing this in RefWorks, Internet Explorer 6 (which is what I have on my computer) , RefWorks froze after I clicked on the Create Bibliography button. Here is what you need to do:
- Go to Bibliography in RefWorks.
- After you select which output style you want (APA, MLA, etc.), select format a bibliography from a list of references.
- For the File Type to Create, select OpenOffice.org Writer (.odt) from the drop down menu.
- Select which folder the references are coming from.
- Hit the Create Bibliography button. If the document does not open right away, click the download it link on the RefWorks screen. Also check to see if your pop up blocker is preventing the document from opening.
